Science fiction thrillers are not what I usually enjoy reading. I usually find this genre heavy, difficult to follow and relate to. That being said, thriteen1369sixtynine was not the case at all, quite the opposite!
I was positively suprised by how the futuristic technology aspects take a fine place in the plot and actually add to the ambiance and story, making it realistic and believable. It's clear to me that the author did his homework.
I was absolutely charmed by Blankk Frankk's dark and sharply humorous mind. Finding ridiculously funny details in some of the darkest, ugliest situations.
In the beginning of this graphic and horrifying depiction of a Post Apocalyptic wasteland, you may find yourself asking, "Is there any way to escape this type of future?"
"1369" explores a dystopian world torn apart by nature's revolt, and the greed of the Top One Percent, who without any sense of reality or empathy, have let society further collapse on itself.
And this is in a country where its inhabitants have lost all faith in humanity, trust no one, and will do whatever is necessary just to survive the nights. But there is an X-Factor standing in the shadows; a man no one wants to meet alone. Blankk Frankk is an ex-government assassin, and is highly-trained and capable of taking care of more than just himself. Frankk has a plan to shake things up from his command center, and to remind some of these government officials about the laws of human mortality.
Not wanting to infringe on any of the author's concepts or intentions, nor wanting to ruin the experience for the reader, I will simply say that Blankk Frankk reminds me of a mix between Mad Max and some kind of demented Jason Bourne. It also has a modernistic Escape From New York vibe running through it.
He epitomizes the antihero, and forces you to root for him--whether you want to or not.
A twisted, dark, and poignant science fiction novel, "1369" will have you turning the pages and trying to figure out Frankk's grand finale until the very end. But my advice, is to just sit back and let Frankk guide you through each episode of rawness.
And when you come to the last word, close the book, and let it sink in, you will find that the question you first had, has in fact, been answered. However, you will also find that a new question follows that original one. And it is something like this "Is this about a fictitious time in the future, or is it about a real time that has already begun?"
